Gardner Citizens Police Academy commences May 4

The City of Gardner will host the sixth class of its Citizens Police Academy. Classes will be held on Thursday evenings, from May 4 through June 29.

The purpose of the Citizens Police Academy is to educate the community about the structure and activities of the police department, and to give participants the opportunity to meet and interact with Gardner’s officers. Class topics include patrol procedures, criminal law, traffic enforcement, officer safety, domestic violence, K-9 utilization, firearms and more. Participants will also tour the Johnson County Adult Detention Center and Communications Center.

Gardner Police Department personnel will lead the 10-week course at the Gardner Senior Center, located at 128 E. Park St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A graduation ceremony will be held on July 6, 2017, for those that complete the Academy.

 Enrollment Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Gardner resident and/or employee
  • No criminal record and passes a criminal history/background check

 Applications can be obtained at the Gardner Police Department, located at 440 E. Main St. Completed applications must be returned no later than March 31, 2017. There is no fee to attend, but class size is limited.
