City of Gardner receives fourth consecutive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
The City of Gardner received its fourth consecutive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for its fiscal year 2018 budget.
As part of the requirements to receive the award, Gardner fulfilled nationally recognized guidelines and achieved a budget rated "proficient" in four categories, which included 14 mandatory criteria within those areas. The following categories were assessed on how well the budget served as:
A policy document
A financial plan
An operations guide
An effective communications tool
The city also received one score of “outstanding” for its unit goals and performance measures outlined in the document.
During the May 7 City Council meeting, the Governing Body recognized staff for this significant achievement of meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. Mayor Steve Shute presented the award plaque and certificate to City Administrator Cheryl Harrison-Lee along with members of the Finance Department.
The GFOA is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 18,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners. For more information about the GFOA, visit www.gfoa.org.
