City recognized for excellence in financial reporting
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded the City of Gardner with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending in 2017. This is the 14th consecutive year the city has been recognized for this achievement.
According to the GFOA, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
“We have a stellar Finance Department who is responsible for preparing this award-winning report annually,” said Laura Gourley, interim city administrator. “To receive this recognition for the 14th year in a row demonstrates their commitment to excellence in sound financial planning and fiscal transparency.”
The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the GFOA CAFR program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate investors and other users to read the CAFR.
The GFOA is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
