City Operated Utilities

The City of Gardner operates three not-for-profit municipal utilities: water, wastewater, electric. This makes the City of Gardner unique in the metro region.  Gardner is one of a few municipalities that operates one or all three of these utilities. The response to incidents involving the three utilities is local and therefore, connected to the needs of its customers.

Gardner's water, wastewater, and electric utilities is proud of its ability to provide the residents and businesses of Gardner with:

• Local control over those things which directly effect the quality of life in your neighborhood, business, or home

The Gardner City Council, in conjunction with the City Administrator and Public Works Department, oversees the efficiency and effectiveness of the utilities. The City Council continually monitors performance of the utilities and annually reviews rates at a hearing open to the public for comment.

The City of Gardner communicates information regarding its utilities in a publication called the Utility News, which is inserted into Monthly Utility Statements. This informative publication provides consumers with information on utility projects, conservation methods, new programs and services, and rates.
