Communications

The Administration staff is responsible for communications with Gardner residents and businesses, as well as communications with agencies and businesses outside of the City. The Assistant City Administrator functions as the Public Information Officer for the City and is responsible for the following communication activities:

Internet

Gardner’s primary communication tool has become the Internet.  The City’s website is regularly updated with new information from City Council minutes to stories regarding the latest community events. The City uses the Internet for purposes such as posting press releases, notifying residents of construction projects and improvements, and for posting job openings.  The City will continue to expand its online services to the community as technology changes.

City Newsletter --Inside Gardner

Another important communication tool is the City Newsletter.  The newsletter is sent out quarterly and used to update residents and businesses on the projects, programs, and activities of the City.  Every resident and business in the 66030 zip code receives the newsletter.

Utility News

The Utility News is another communication tool that the City produces for the shareholders of Gardner’s electric, sewer, and water utilities.  This publication provides information to residents and business on everything from utility projects to conservation methods.

Press Releases

The City also communicates with the public through Press Releases that are sent to local newspapers and occasionally to local television news stations.  All press releases are posted on the City’s website, regardless of if they were published by the newspaper or television news.

Citizens Survey

The ETC Institute conducts a citizen survey on behalf of the City of Gardner.  The last survey was completed by interviewing 826 households via phone or mail surveys in November 2007, this survey has an accuracy of +/- 3.4% at the 95% confidence level.  Gardner is a charter member of the survey program and has conducted a survey every two years since 1999. The survey responses are a valuable tool to determine how well the City is doing, as well as identify improvement opportunities. The City Council relies on this information when making key decisions for the community. Here are the results from the 2007 Citizen Survey.
