Current Projects

  • 175th & Waverly Road Overhead Line Extension: one mile of line to support residential growth in the St. John’s Trace and Prairiebrooke Village subdivisions. Engineering, FCC permits, and easements are in order, and electric staff is in the process of planning the construction.
  • Preliminary work has begun to rebuild the Hospital Circuit that provides power to the west side of Gardner, north of the BNSF railroad tracks and along S. Waverly Road to W. 175th Street and the Municipal Airport.  The electric voltage support in this area has been improved by the addition of voltage regulators in 2006 and by replacing the old lines with larger current-carrying capacity lines that provide better voltage support and energy requirements to the new commercial and residential developments on the west side of the City, north of U.S. Highway 56.
  • Staff has begun the process to replace the starting motor and clutch assembly for Combustion Turbine No. 1.  This project will require a unit outage to replace a diesel starting motor that is out of compliance with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Johnson County Environmental permit for exhaust emissions.  The new motor and clutch will provide more efficient and faster responses in the event of a system emergency that requires the operation of the Energy Center units.
