Intermodal Review Committee (Conducted April - June 2006)

The City of Gardner created an Intermodal Review Committee to study the proposed Intermodal and Logistics Park being sought by BNSF. This Committee was charged with identifying issues related to the proposal presented by BNSF Railroad to construct a logistics facility and develop an industrial park, known as an Intermodal Park. The location of the facilities will be bounded by 56 Highway to the North, Waverly Road on the East, 191st Street to the South and Four Corners Road on the West. The proposed facility is currently not with in the boundaries of the City of Gardner.

Committee members were charged with determining the impact this project would have on the Gardner area.

The committee identify and reported information to the City Council in an effort to insure that, as this project goes forward, benefits to the community will be maximized and negatives will be minimized. The City of Gardner worked with a professional facilitator, to provide management and community consulting services for the Intermodal Review Committee. The Committee presented its report to the Gardner City Council and Planning Commission on July 10, 2006. The Intermodal Review Committee was chaired by Councilman David Drovetta.

Scope of the Committee
Identify the issues that the Gardner City Council will have to consider when reviewing a future proposal for a Logistics Park located west of Waverly and south of 56 Highway.

Examine those issues, list the pros and cons, provide ideas to maximize the benefits and minimize the problems.

Hold a public forum to receive comments and questions from the public, and use that input for the committee’s research.

Present a paper to the City Council, no later then July 10, addressing the issues studied.
