Reporting Graffiti
The City responds to and removes graffiti on public property. Graffiti involving gangs, racial or ethnic material is given the highest priority and is removed or covered within 48 hours. For graffiti in a City park, please call Parks and Recreation at 913-856-0936.

Graffiti problems at other public locations can be reported in two ways:
E-mail Public Works with a description of the location of the problem and any other pertinent information. Please include your name and home phone number for our records or call our Street Maintenance Division from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 913-856-6945. If the graffiti occurred on private or residential property, it is the property owner's responsibility to have it removed. To make a police report about private property damage, call 913-856-7312.

Requesting a New Traffic Signal or Sign
Residents may contact the city to request new traffic signals or traffic signs.  When a request is made, the Engineering Department studies the location to determine whether a signal, light or sign is warranted and needed according to the city's policies, or whether something else can be done to address the problem.

Requests can be submitted in two ways:
E-mail with a detailed description of your request, along with a contact name and address or call the Engineering Department from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 913-856-0952.

Requesting Street Light Repairs

The city’s Electric Division maintains approximately 1000 street lights in Gardner.  The city's street lights are a high-pressure sodium, energy efficient type designed and installed to provide a safe level of illumination on the roadways.

Street light problems can be reported in two ways:
E-mail with a description of the location of the problem and any other pertinent information or call the Streets Division from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, 913-856-6945. During nights and weekends, callers can leave messages.

Requesting Traffic Signal Repairs

The City’s Electric Division maintains the traffic signals. The signals are designed, constructed and operated to allow for safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians through heavily traveled or hazardous locations.  Nearly all of the traffic signals in Gardner are triggered by detection loops within the pavement. The loops sense the presence of a vehicle and notify the signal that a car is at the intersection. Many of the signals along major streets have timing patterns that change throughout the day and on different days of the week to provide optimal traffic flow.  Problems occasionally develop because of failure of the electronic components in the signals, power fluctuations, bulb burn-outs or damage. Common problems are for the red, green or yellow light to be out, flashing or stuck.

Traffic signal problems can be reported in two ways, depending on the time of day:
Call the Streets Division from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, 913-856-6945 or E-mail with a description of the location of the problem and any other pertinent information. Nights or weekends, call Public Safety at 913-856-7312.

Storm Water and Storm Drains, Wastewater Collection and Sewer System Back Ups
Storm drains are the metal grates found on urban and suburban streets, often at corners and on the sides of curbs and gutters. They help prevent flooding by draining rainwater and melted snow off of streets and other paved surfaces. Occasionally there are problems with the storm drains.

The Line Maintenance Division maintains the sanitary sewer collection sywstem which collects and delivers wastewater to the Wastewater Treatment Plants for treatment. This division cleans 100% of the City-owned sewer lines on an annual basis as part of the sewer cleaning program. However, occasionally, sewer systems back up. Sewer systems and storm drain systems are not the same thing. To find out more about any of these, please click the links provided below:
