Block Parties
The Gardner Department of Public Safety would like to know when your neighborhood will be having a block party.  If you would like to have barricades to assist in your block parties or would like to have an appearance made by the police or fire department we can assist in getting these services to your block party.  Call the Gardner Department of Public Safety at 856-7312 to set up your block party even if no assistance is needed.  Please remember that all roadways have to be passable for all emergency vehicles at all times.  There is no charge for this service.

Inoperable Vehicles

Inoperable Vehicles are described as vehicles being junked, wrecked, wholly or partially dismantled, discarded, abandoned or unable to perform the functions or purpose for which it was originally constructed. Presumptions for a vehicle being inoperable also include:

  • Absence of an effective registration plate or decal
  • Placement of the vehicle or parts thereof upon jacks, blocks, chains or other support

The inoperable and abandoned vehicle ordinance can be located in cities Codes Ordinance Chapter 14 Article 4.

Property Maintenance

Parking Complaints

All motor vehicles must be legally parked on all city streets and shall be moved every 48 to 72 hours.  If the vehicle is not moved within this time frame the vehicle could be deemed as inoperable if parked on a city street or highway.  No large trucks or semi trucks are allowed to be parked or driven on residential streets at any time.  No trailers, including construction trailers, shall be parked on a city street at any time.  Should you have a question or complaint contact the Gardner Department of Public Safety at 856-7312.          

Burning of Leaves and Brush

Burning of leaves and brush is permissible in the city limits of Gardner with the following provisions:

  • It is unlawful to burn trash or brush of any kind within the corporate limits of the City from 5:00PM until sunrise of the next day and on Sundays and Federal holidays.
  • Any open burning within the corporate limits of the City is prohibited.
  • It is unlawful to maintain any burning of any kind upon any street or within 25' thereof.
  • It is unlawful to burn any garbage or human wastes of any kind within the corporate limits of the City.
  • It is unlawful to burn trash or brush of any kind within 25' to any building or structure within the corporate limits of the City.  This does not include trash burners of an approved type that is fully enclosed on all sides and protected by wire mesh or other protective covering.

    Any person violating any of the above provisions of this section, shall upon conviction thereof, be fined in any sum not exceeding $25.00.  (Ord. 1261 Sec. 1)

Prohibited Areas in the corporate limits of the City include:

  • A four block area bounded by Park Street, Shawnee Street, Center Street and Sycamore Street.
  • All properties within the city that are used for commercial or industrial.  (Ord. 1712 Sec. 2)

All violations of the above prohibited areas in the corporate limits of the city, shall upon conviction thereof, be fined in any sum not exceeding $100.00.  (Ord. 1066 Sec. 1-6)

Any and all burning requires a burn permit to be obtained the day that burning is requested.  Call the Gardner Department of Public Safety for more information and/or to obtain a burn permit at 856-7312.  Hours of operations for the Fire Division is 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
