  • City Wide Clean Up - Saturday, May 10, 2008
The City of Gardner's City Wide Clean up will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008.  To view a copy of the press release, please click here.  To view an informational flier, please click here.
  • Lincoln Lane west of Moonlight Road, directly behind Price Chopper:
Beginning in August of 2007, Lincoln Lane was improved to a 40’ wide curbed roadway, with sidewalk, underground storm sewer and street lights, connecting Cedar Street to Moonlight Road.  This replaced the existing 2-lane dead end road with ditch sections.  The improved roadway will be striped to provide an eastbound and westbound thru lane and the center lane will be striped for left turn movements at most of the intersections with other roads and entrances.  These intersecting roads and entrances have been rebuilt as necessary to provide smooth connections to the improved Lincoln Lane.

In December of 2007, the street lights were installed.  The paving and grading was suspended at that time due to weather restrictions.   The contractor is currently grading for the 4’ to 5’ wide concrete sidewalk that will be located along the north side of the road and the landscaping which will consist of street trees located on both sides of the road.  The final lift of asphalt, sidewalk construction, grading, and landscaping should be completed in May of 2008.  Lincoln Lane is currently open to all traffic, but it is still considered a work zone.

  • Moonlight and Main Street intersection

The Moonlight Road project includes construction of 1.5 miles of four-lane asphalt street (widening from two existing lanes to four lanes) with curb and gutter from approximately Buffalo Trail (south of Main and Moonlight intersection) to 555 feet north of 166th Street on Moonlight Road.  Improvements also include installation of sidewalk, a 10’ asphalt walking trail on the west side of Moonlight Road, median, street lights, landscaping, storm sewer installation, utility relocation, and site improvements.

  • Double Gate Culvert Replacement:

The City of Gardner retained Payne and Brockway to conduct a preliminary engineering study to determine the potential impacts of flooding within the Kill Creek Watershed. As a result of this study, it was determined that eleven existing homes within the Double Gate subdivision and fourteen existing homes in the Stonebrooke subdivision are within the limits of the new Johnson County 100-year floodplain.

Payne and Brockway has been retained to provide solutions that will remove these homes from the 100-year floodplain.  Preliminary engineering plans were submitted to the City of Gardner in April of 2008.  These plans include replacing the four 3.5’x6’ elliptical pipes at Madison Street, located in the Double Gate 7th Plat subdivision with a 4-cell 10’x5’ reinforced concrete box.  The plans also show adding three additional cells to the existing 9’x4.3’ reinforced concrete box at 170th Terrace, located between Stonebrooke Place 2nd and 3rd Plats.  Sections of Madison Street and 170th Terrace will need to be removed in order to access the culverts. These streets will be closed to thru traffic during the construction phase of these projects.  Traffic control plans addressing these closures have been submitted as a part of the construction plans.  It has also been shown in the construction plans that the construction activity will not be on any part of the adjacent private lots.

A public meeting will be held in May of 2008.  City staff and Payne and Brockway will be contacting the residents to discuss this project in greater detail and to answer any questions.  Any questions concerning this project should be directed to the Mark Pottinger, P.E., at 913-856-0918.
