Visiting the City of Trails

Gardner is located along I-35 on the southern edge of the Kansas City metropolitan area at exits 207 and 210.  Gardner provides a unique atmosphere to visitors, as it played a vital role in the history of the westward expansion of the United States.  It is here in Gardner that the Oregon, Santa Fe, and California trails divide for the final time as they led the pioneers west.  In the 1850's, many pioneers passed through this relatively flat area of Johnson County.  Gardner shares its local history with visitors of the Gardner Historical Museum, who hosts a variety of annual events and is open to the public for tours, during regular hours or by appointment.  Johnson County operates a historic site just outside of the Gardner - Lansfield School.  This one room schoolhouse and museum is sure to take you back to times gone by.  Gardner’s historic downtown boasts a variety of vibrant specialty shops in buildings that date from the early 1900's.  Gardner’s downtown is located on Main Street (56 Hwy.) that runs east to west through Gardner.  A multitude of restaurants line Main Street as you drive into the community and are sure to fulfill any craving.  We invite you to come and see what Gardner has to offer, including:
