The Public Works Department oversees multiple construction, maintenance, and repair projects. These projects serve to update, rehabilitate, and maintain the City's infrastructure and facilities.

  •  Pedestrian Trail Replacement

The first phase of the pedestrian trail project, which began Tuesday, May 30, includes removal and replacement of the Madison Street pedestrian trail. The project includes the closure of the trail from Waverly Road to Center Street until mid-July.

The second phase will include the removal and replacement of the Winwood Trail. This is the trail segment north of Madison St that leads into and around the perimeter of Winwood Park.

The trail replacement is part of an ongoing effort by the city to improve the bike/pedestrian trail network throughout Gardner. For more information, contact Staff Engineer Abdul Yahaya, ayahaya@gardnerkansas.gov or 913.856.0920.

  •  Pedestrian Bridges

Two pedestrian bridges will be installed on the Gardner Greenway Trail, between Madison St and 167th St. The project will include the removal of the two existing low-water crossings and replacing them with pre-fabricated bridges. The work will begin on June 12, and the trail will be closed until mid-August.

In conjunction with the trail replacement project, the asphalt trail from the south bridge near Winwood Park to Madison Street will be reconstructed. These projects will include the closure of the Gardner Greenway trail until mid-August.

The bridge installations and trail replacement are part of an ongoing effort by the city to improve the bike/pedestrian trail network throughout Gardner.
