Welcome to the Mayor’s Office and thank you for visiting the City of Gardner's website.

It is my honor and privilege to extend the warmest of greetings to you as you explore the small-town charm of the place we call home. With our four-season weather, growing economy, spacious green parks, idyllic downtown and AAA bond rating, it's no wonder Money Magazine recently named us as the #1 Best Place to Live in America!

If you’re considering a move to Apex, you’ll find a variety of housing options - from small starter apartments and town homes to estates, there’s a place for everyone. Our quality of life is second to none, with convenient amenities, a low crime rate, and a robust parks and recreation system.

From the highly rated K-12 schools provided by Wake County, along with our proximity to a dozen four-year colleges and universities, Apex residents have access to excellent opportunities for education.

A diverse local employer base, combined with mere 15-minute commute to Cary, Raleigh or the Research Triangle Park, eliminates the traffic headaches found in larger metropolitan areas. And after hours, you can wind down by wandering our quaint downtown, with a unique variety of restaurants and shops, or enjoy our many arts programs and outstanding outdoor festivals.

Our future is bright as well. The award-winning 2030 Peak Plan has been established to serve as a guide for growth.

Come discover why Apex, named for the highest point on the railroad, is truly the Peak of Good Living!

We have great pride in our community, and with good reason. It all begins with our history which is both long and unique. Founded in 1857, Gardner was “Blazing New Trails” four years before Kansas became a State. The famed pioneer trails leading to California, Oregon, and Santa Fe divided their paths in Gardner blazing their way West, Northwest, and Southwest. This bit of history is celebrated in Gardner to this day with our two day “Festival on the Trails” each June. We are steeped in history over 150 years in the making, but Gardner is much more than our past.

Over the past quarter century no city in Kansas has realized greater growth than Gardner, and today we continue to grow, with plans for that trajectory to continue. A look at our community makes it easy to understand the record growth. Our city is consistently recognized as one of the safest in Kansas, a credit to our Police Department and Fire District. Our quality of life is top notch highlighted by an award-winning Parks & Recreation Department with great amenities and activities for residents of all ages. Our neighborhoods are affordable and diverse, and hundreds of shovel ready lots exist across the city. In Gardner, we own our electric, water, and wastewater utilities with a great track record of reliability and prime facilities. Our Gardner-Edgerton School District includes six elementary schools, three middle schools, and Gardner-Edgerton High School, between these schools are accolades and awards too many to count here. So, it’s easy to see why Gardner has grown by leaps and bounds, and why we are poised to continue “Blazing New Trails.”

It’s an exciting time to be in Gardner as we continue to transform our first-class city into a world-class city. If you are considering Gardner for your next home or business location, you are welcomed here. And, I am positive that the more you explore Gardner, the more you will like what you see.
