City Prepares for a Tight 2009 Budget

As the City begins preparation of its 2009 budget, it faces many of the same constraints you are probably experiencing.  It has adjusted its operations and has also used some of its reserves or savings from the prior years.
As part of the 2008 budget, the City Council approved the use of nearly $1,000,000 of reserves.  The City will be looking at a variety of cost saving measures to continue to hold its property tax rate at approximately 24 mills. It will also be looking at its capital improvements program and making adjustments to help maintain the City’s excellent financial health as noted by its A2 bond rating.

The City of Gardner invites you to provide thoughts, comments, or questions for consideration during development of the 2009 budget.  Please email those comments to mmundt@gardnerkansas.gov or email the City Council.  Council emails are available under the City Government section.
