Electric Staff Engineer (Utilities) - Salary: $72,756 – 86,232/yr - EXEMPT – The Electric Staff Engineer is a knowledgeable and experienced electrical engineer who supervises, delegates, evaluates and methodically assigns the resources of manpower, equipment & materials required in the design, construction, operation, maintenance and repair of high voltage electric substations, transmission system and combustion turbine generators.  The position works closely with Kansas Municipal Energy Agency (KMEA) to contract and schedule the electric power supply for the city.  It assists the Compliance Engineer with regulatory compliance programs such as those mandated by Southwest Power Pool (SPP), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC).  Requires Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of four years of professional experience (preferably in electric power systems) in project management, contract administration, design, review and construction of projects and/or supervisory responsibilities.  Must have a valid driver's license.  Licensure in the state of Kansas as a Professional Engineer (PE) within two years of employment.  Application Deadline:  10/31/14
 
Electric Engineering Technician (Utilities) - Salary: $23.73 – 28.10 – The Electric Engineering Technician performs technical work, including AutoCAD, in the Utility Department pertaining to planning, estimating, staking, and inspection for subdivision projects, electrical extensions and new high voltage circuits; also works with outside contractors, vendors and engineers for maintenance, technical repairs and improvements performed on the 15 KV distribution system.  Requires High School diploma or GED and a Certified Engineering Technician designation with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the application of design and construction of electric utilities or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, ability, and skill.  Requires possession of a valid driver’s license.  Application Deadline:  10/31/14
 
Executive Assistant (Administration) - Salary: $23.70 – 28.10/hr – To perform, coordinate and oversee highly responsible, confidential and complex administrative and project support for the City Administrator and Mayor.  This position represents the City Administrator’s office with the public, media and outside organizations and assists in the day-to-day activities of the City Administrator’s office.  Requires high school diploma or GED and a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the appropriate knowledge, abilities, and skills.  Minimum of five (5) years administrative experience supporting a high-level manager, preferably in a public sector organization.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.    Hours M-F; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  Application Deadline:  Open Until Filled with First Review 10/17/14
 
Code Compliance Inspector (Business & Economic Development)Salary: $17.71 – 25.73/hr – To assist the Business and Economic Development Director in securing compliance with all applicable codes and general ordinances.  This position performs a variety of routine and complex work in the interpretation and enforcement of adopted codes and related regulations.  Requires any combination of experience and education equivalent to graduation from high school, or GED that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.  Associates degree in related field preferred.  Three (3) years experience in code enforcement, planning, public administration, or related field.  Must have a valid driver’s license.  Hours M-F; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  Application Deadline:  Open Until Filled

Network Administrator (Administration) – Salary:  Up to $86,232/yr. (EXEMPT) – Responsible for the overall management of the City’s information technology division, and provides planning for future technology needs.  This technical position recommends alternative process and procedures for the efficient and effective use of computer and peripheral equipment. This position supervises the Information Technology Specialist.  Requires a BA in computer science or a closely related field with 7-10 years extensive experience in computer operations, including network design and implementation, personal computers, and equipment operations, server experience, and system backup and recovery practices; or any combination of education and experience that has provided the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Preferred Certifications:  MCSE; MCSA; and CCNA.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.  Application Deadline:  Open Until Filled 

Chief of Police (Police) - Starting Salary commensurate with experiene and qualifications and includes a benefit package. - To lead and manage a police department in a rapidly growing and dynamic city in Johnson County, KS.  The city is seeking a respected and professional hands-on leader and manager well versed in the latest techniques of law enforcement who will collaborate with other Kansas City metropolitan law enforcement agencies and work effectively, hand-in-hand with department officers and staff.  The next Chief should possess a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Criminology, or an equivalent field; a Master's degree in a related field is preferred.  Graduation from the FBI National Academy or similar recognized program will be a plus.  Other requirements include at least 10 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience in command of police operations with considerable management experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities; ability to become a certified police officer in Kansas within six months from date of hire; possess a valid Driver's License and a good driving record; and residency in the city of Gardner within six (6) months from the date of hire.  Recruitment is being managed by James L. Utility Director (Utilities) - Salary up to $107,892/yr. - To operate, implement, plan and direct a comprehensive utility program that will insure sound planning, maintenance and service to the public for water, wastewater and electric systems.  The director will assist the City Administrator and other city officials in determining overall policy and direction for the City utility programs; administer all functions to include budgeting, scheduling and coordination, capital improvements, implementation, planning, personnel, and long and short range projects for the utilities.  This position serves as a key member of the City Administrator’s management team.  Gardner is a growing and progressive community located in southwestern Johnson County within the Kansas City metropolitan area.  Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in engineering, public administration, management or related field and ten (10) years of increasingly responsible management experience in engineering and the utility industry.  Proven track record of leadership and employee involvement.  Excellent judgment and decision making skills.  Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively motivate others.  Possession of a valid driver’s license.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Competitive benefit package is included.  Hours:  Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, plus evening meetings as required.  Application Deadline:  Open Until Filled
