Communication Manager/Public Information Officer (Administration) – Salary: $72,756 – 86,232/yr. – EXEMPT – Responsible for planning, coordinating and leading the implementation of strategic communications that effectively engage and inform internal audiences (employees) and external stakeholders (citizens and business community) about City activities and initiatives, as well as promoting and raising the profile of the City within the broader local and regional community. Under the direction of the City Administrator, this position encompasses the breadth of community communication and engagement activities including the initiation, oversight, planning, development and delivery of effective community engagement strategies to support the City’s mission and vision, as well as the diverse programs and activities delivered by the City of Gardner. Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field, and a minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in communications or related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Master’s Degree preferred. GIS Analyst (Public Works-Engineering) – Salary: $53,892 – 78,336/yr. – EXEMPT – Responsible for performing technical and professional level work maintaining and expanding the geographic information systems (GIS) databases, layers and linkages to various databases for the Public Works Department.  The GIS Analyst works under the direction of the City Engineer with a variety of responsibilities that include, but are not limited to: GIS program planning, management and coordination, GIS and infrastructure mapping and database management and maintenance of the GIS internet/intranet sites. Work involves creating and updating public and associated private infrastructure GIS datasets; map production using ArcGIS software suite; database manipulation and data entry; and maintaining records of installed infrastructure.  Bachelor’s degree in geography, business or public administration, engineering, computer science, or related field, and a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience involving GIS operations, database design and maintenance, or related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Electric Apprentice Lineman (Utilities) - Starting Salary: $22.29/hr – Performs skilled work relating to the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City’s overhead and underground electric distribution systems.  Job duties also include installation and maintenance of street lighting, minor building maintenance and other work as required.  Position is an entry level class which typically requires 4 years to complete for advancement to Journeyman Lineman.  Requires HS Diploma or GED; a minimum of 3 years experience as an electrician or service installer or combination of vocational training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and ability; 1 year of experience in primary and/or secondary electric service construction of overhead and underground service systems; experience in termination and connection of secondary single and three-phase systems; experience in maintenance of wiring and lighting devices; and experience in metering and controls and operation of related equipment and tools; and possession of a valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).   Hours M-F; 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  Application Deadline:  Open Until Filled with First Review 11/21/14
Journeyman Electric Lineman (Utilities) - Salary: $25.91 - $37.66/hr – Performs skilled work of journeyman level in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground 12.5KV electric distribution power lines, protection equipment, metering, and other electrical equipment.  Minimum qualifications include HS Diploma or GED, with completion of a four (4) year apprentice or merchant program and hold a journeyman lineman certificate issued by the Department of Labor. Position requires possession of valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).  Hours M-F; 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  Application Deadline:  Open Until Filled with First Review 11/21/14
Electric Staff Engineer (Utilities) - Salary: $72,756 – 86,232/yr - EXEMPT – The Electric Staff Engineer is a knowledgeable and experienced electrical engineer who supervises, delegates, evaluates and methodically assigns the resources of manpower, equipment & materials required in the design, construction, operation, maintenance and repair of high voltage electric substations, transmission system and combustion turbine generators.  The position works closely with Kansas Municipal Energy Agency (KMEA) to contract and schedule the electric power supply for the city.  It assists the Compliance Engineer with regulatory compliance programs such as those mandated by Southwest Power Pool (SPP), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC).  Requires Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of four years of professional experience (preferably in electric power systems) in project management, contract administration, design, review and construction of projects and/or supervisory responsibilities.  Must have a valid driver's license.  Licensure in the state of Kansas as a Professional Engineer (PE) within two years of employment.  Application Deadline:  Open Until Filled
Electric Engineering Technician (Utilities) - Salary: $23.73 – 28.10 – The Electric Engineering Technician performs technical work, including AutoCAD, in the Utility Department pertaining to planning, estimating, staking, and inspection for subdivision projects, electrical extensions and new high voltage circuits; also works with outside contractors, vendors and engineers for maintenance, technical repairs and improvements performed on the 15 KV distribution system.  Requires High School diploma or GED and a Certified Engineering Technician designation with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the application of design and construction of electric utilities or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, ability, and skill.  Requires possession of a valid driver’s license.  Application Deadline:  Open Until Filled
Utility Director (Utilities) - Salary up to $107,892/yr. - To operate, implement, plan and direct a comprehensive utility program that will insure sound planning, maintenance and service to the public for water, wastewater and electric systems.  The director will assist the City Administrator and other city officials in determining overall policy and direction for the City utility programs; administer all functions to include budgeting, scheduling and coordination, capital improvements, implementation, planning, personnel, and long and short range projects for the utilities.  This position serves as a key member of the City Administrator’s management team.  Gardner is a growing and progressive community located in southwestern Johnson County within the Kansas City metropolitan area.  Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in engineering, public administration, management or related field and ten (10) years of increasingly responsible management experience in engineering and the utility industry.  Proven track record of leadership and employee involvement.  Excellent judgment and decision making skills.  Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively motivate others.  Possession of a valid driver’s license.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Competitive benefit package is included.  Hours:  Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, plus evening meetings as required.  Application Deadline:  Open Until Filled
