Swim Lessons
Each session has eight 45-minute classes.  Classes run Monday thru Thursday, Fridays will be used for make-up classes in case of inclement weather.

  • Fridays are used for make-up classes in case of inclement weather.
  • Registration fee is $40.00 per person.
  • You may register at the Gardner Parks and Recreation Customer Service Center, located in the front lobby of City Hall, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or online, in which a small handling fee may be applied.
  • Registration is done on a first come-first served basis.
  • Parents are allowed to register their children only.  Waivers must be signed by a legal guardian.
  • Some classes may need to be combined due to the number of students.
  • Parents are not allowed to participate in class unless they are in a Parent/Toddler class.
  • Only one class per child. Additional classes may be available for purchase after the completion of Session I.
3 Ways to Register!!!
Opening Day Registration is Saturday, April 26th at 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
 
1.  Walk-In Registration
You may register in person at the Gardner Parks and Recreation Customer Service Center, located in the front lobby of City Hall.  LINES WILL BE LONG.  After Opening Day, you may register at City Hall, Mon-Fri, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
 
2.  Mail-In Registration
You may complete a registration form and mail it to Gardner City Hall, 120 E. Main St.  However, there is no guarantee that the class you choose will still be open.  If it is not, you would be notified immediately from our Customer Service Center to see what other classes are available for you.

3. Right Here! Online!
It will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A small handling fee will be applied.  The fee is based upon how much you spend.  (For one swim lesson, the handling fee is $3.10)  Simply click on the Register button below, search for the class you want and follow the easy steps! BE SURE TO GET A RECIEPT!  At the completion of your purchase, you should recieve an email confirmation that your enrollment went through.  If you do not, you may not have enrolled correctly and should call our office at 856-0936 immediately.

Swimming Lesson Class Descriptions

Parent/Toddler Lessons
This class was designed for the parent and toddler. The class will focus on getting the children familiar with the water. With parent interaction, our certified lifeguards will teach swimming readiness through blowing bubbles, working on back float skills and the dog paddle. Your child will gain coordination and confidence in the water. This class is for children between the ages of 18 months and 4 years.  Parents are required to get in the water with their child.  Only one parent per child may be in the water.  Maximum 15 participants per class.

Fins 1
• Must be 4 years of age as of or before July 31, 2008
• Blowing bubbles
• Immersing face fully for three seconds
• Flutter kick front and back
• Introduction of front crawl arms
• Front and Back Float with assistance
• Front and Back Glide with assistance
• Walk in chest deep water
• Encounter deep water (6 ft.)
• Reach assistance
• Safety tips
• Maximum 8 participants per class

Fins 2
• Immersing entire body for three seconds
• Capture objects in chest deep water with assistance
• Jump into chest deep water and recover
• Front and Back Float without help, 5 seconds
• Front and Back Glide without help, 5 seconds
• Turning over front and back with assistance (Log Roll)
• Flutter kick front and back
• Front Crawl without help, 5 yards
• Modified Back Crawl without help, 5 yards
• Encounter deep water (12 ft.)
• Simple life saving and water rescue skills
• Maximum 10 participants per class

Fins 3
• Captures objects in chest deep water, without help and with eyes open
• Deep water bobbing
• Incline safety bob
• Encounter deep water by jumping from diving boards
• Front and Back Glide:  Two body lengths
• Turning over front and back without help (Log Roll)
• Introduction to reversing directions at the wall (Racing technique)
• Front Crawl without help, side breathing, 10 yards
• Back Crawl without help, alternating arms, 10 yards
• Modified Elementary Backstroke, 10 yards
• Introduction to treading water with all kicks, 2 minutes
• Dive from side of pool using kneeling and compact positions
• Simple life saving skills/CPR skills
• Maximum 10 participants per class

Fins 4
• Introduction to Rotary Breathing with Front Crawl
• Front Crawl, Rotary Breathing, 25 yards (length of pool)
• Back Crawl, 25 yards (length of pool)
• Elementary Backstroke, 25 yards (length of pool)
• Modified Breaststroke, 10 yards
• Modified Sidestroke, 10 yards
• Introduction to open turns (Racing technique)
• Feet first surface dive
• Dive from side of pool using standing position and 3-step position
• Introduction of long shallow diving from side of pool
• One completed dive from standing position from the diving boards
• Encounter 12 ft. with extension pole
• Tread water with scissors, breaststroke, and rotary kicks:  one minute each kick
• Life saving/CPR skills
• Maximum 10 participants per class

Fins 5
• Front Crawl, Rotary Breathing, 100 yards
• Back Crawl, 100 yards
• Elementary Backstroke, 100 yards
• Breaststroke, 50 yards
• Sidestroke, 50 yards
• Modified Butterfly, 50 yards
• Swimming underwater 3 body lengths
• Introduction to flip turns (Racing technique)
• Using the feet first surface dive, retrieve brick from 6 ft.
• Encounter 12 ft. with extension pole
• Introduction to the 3-step approach from the diving boards
• Complete Tuck and Pike jumps from diving boards
• One completed dive from the diving boards using the 3-step approach
• Introduction to duck and pike dives
• Tread water using all kicks, 5 minutes continuous
• Life saving/CPR skills
• Maximum of 10 participants per class

• Front Crawl, 200 yards
• Back Crawl, 200 yards
• Breaststroke, 150 yards
• Elementary Backstroke, 200 yards
• Sidestroke, 150 yards
• Butterfly, 50 yards
• Swimming underwater for 15-25 yards
• Perfection of open and flip turns during lap swimming (Racing technique)
• Using the feet first surface dive, retrieve brick from 12 ft.
• Perfect 3-step approach from boards, use with all diving
• Perfect tuck and pike dives
• Stride Jump Entry
• Treading water using all kicks, 8 minutes continuous
• Life saving/CPR skills
• Maximum 10 participants per class
