Gardner Gold Special Olympics

What is Gardner Gold Special Olympics?

The Gardner Gold Team participates in numerous activities during the year such as track and field events, cycling, bowling, soccer, basketball, cheerleading, skiing and fundraising. Please contact the Gardner Parks and Recreation Department for more information regarding participating in Special Olympics as an athlete, coach or sponsor.

Program
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year round training and athletic competition in a variety of well-coached Olympic-type sports activities for individuals with special needs.

Purpose
By providing our athletes with the continuing opportunity to develop physical and mental fitness, we find it helps to prepare them for entry into school and community programs. The joy they experience while participating, making friends, and sharing experiences is unsurpassed in other areas of their lives.

Eligibility
Individuals with special needs 8 years of age or older are eligible to participate in area and state competition. Individuals who are under 8 years of age are welcome to practice with the team and participate in all other activities. All athletes must have a health physical performed by their physician in order to participate.
